WWE’s Wildest Reveals: From Vince McMahon to Austin Theory

During the main event of Monday Night Raw, Logan Paul faced off against the Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. It seemed like momentum was on Mysterio’s side, but Paul had other plans. He and Heyman distracted the ref, allowing for the masked man to give Rey a curb stomp.

Logan won and had a stare-down with the masked assailant before CM Punk arrived, causing them to retreat. Then the man went up the arena stairs and revealed himself as Austin Theory. The reveal got a lukewarm reaction, but fans did chant “Austin Theory.”

Here are four other reveals that stirred up the pot in WWE.

It Was Me, Austin

This might be one of the most memorable discoveries in WWE history, albeit a counterintuitive one. On the June 7th, 1999 edition of Raw, fans were wondering who the higher power could be. They spent all night building up to the reveal, and that is when we got the infamous quote. “It was me, Austin, it was me all along.

You see, the original plan was to have Christopher Daniels be the higher power. However, Vince McMahon brought it upon himself to audible. The thought process was that Vince was in a high-profile rivalry with Steve Austin, so to add some more fuel to the fire, the Chairman decided to be the higher power.

From Vince McMahon being the higher power, to his illegitimate son. Whom would it be?

“Things are looking up for you Mr. McMahon, but not for you, for your son. Hornswoggle,” said Mr. Johnson.

Triple H was laughing so hard that the whole segment felt anticlimactic.

The original plan was for Vince’s son to be Mr. Kennedy. However, he suffered an injury and had a suspension, leading to the pivot. What WWE did as a payoff was a comedic storyline, and many were left wondering what could have been. Nothing against Dylan Post (Hornswoggle), but this could have been so much more than it turned out to be.

I did it, I did it for the Rock

At Survivor Series 1999, Stone Cold Steve Austin was run over by a car, and the WWE Universe was eager to learn who the attacker was. The reason for the incident was to write off SCSA, who was dealing with a neck injury in real life. The WWE had some clues as to who was behind the attack, but everyone involved was not ready for the reveal.

On October 9th, 2000, Mick Foley, the Rock, and Rikishi were all in the ring. Rikishi admitted to being the assailant and said, “I did it for the Rock. I ran over Stone Cold Steve Austin, and to tell you the truth, I’d do it again.” Fans and commentators alike were surprised to hear what really happened, and to this very day it has not really known why Rikishi did it.

The rumor was that this reveal would lead to a heel turn for the Samoan, but that did not quite work out in the end.

I know it wasn’t you

When Jade Cargill got attacked on a November episode of SmackDown, the WWE Universe had a few guesses as to who it could be. A member of the Judgement Day, Nia Jax, or even Bianca Belair, teasing a turn to the dark side. Cargill made her return at Elimination Chamber, and many speculated she was going to attack Liv Morgan.

However, Cargill said, “I know it wasn’t you,” to Morgan, who was panicking for her life. Just then, Jade Cargill went after Naomi as Belair stood helpless inside her pod. Naomi revealed later that she attacked Cargill and went on quite the heel run. She won the Money in the Bank match and cashed it in to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion. Weeks later, the champ announced she was pregnant and warned the division to “proceed with caution.” Whether we get a feud between Jade Cargill and Naomi, this plot twist was something very few saw coming.

All these examples are why WWE can become must-see television. When creative delivers, it makes for a better product to digest and enjoy. From history-making moments like Hornswoggle being Vince’s son, to plot twists such as Naomi being the assailant behind Cargill’s attack.

Now that Austin Theory is revealed, it will be interesting to see where WWE goes from here. There is a rumor that another masked man is still out at large and could be on the prowl. As for Theory, here is to hoping Creative has something up their sleeve with the holidays around the corner.
