A Cheerleader-Eaten-By-A-Mascot Blast From The Past

Last time we checked in, we thought we were dealing with a new phenomenon. Footage unearthed today by reader Art, however, explicitly shows an '80s-era cheerleader being devoured by a mascot on something called Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters.

Barbara Mandrell was a country music star, and as was the style of the times, she was given a variety show. And like every other country music star, Barbara had non-star siblings, in this case, her sisters Louise and Irlene. Mandrell was a fixture on other TV shows as well, with guest spots on such memorable programs as Empty Nest, Diagnosis: Murder, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, The Commish, Baywatch, and Walker, Texas Ranger. A 1984 car accident turned Mandrell into a family-centered seat-belt advocate, so that's good. She is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and now we learn that she is a founding mother of the cheerleader-being-eaten-by-mascot genre. Barbara Mandrell: American icon.
