Carlos Quentin Ruins Everything, Drops Suspension Appeal On Eve Of Dodgers Series
Carlos Quentin was handed an eight-game suspension after he charged the much, much tinier Zack Greinke last Thursday, sparking a bench-clearing brawl.
Although Quentin still defends his decision to charge Greinke because he hit him twice before—as recently as 4 years ago—he has accepted his punishment, after initially appealing the decision. He announced this afternoon that he would begin serving the suspension today against the Rockies.
"It's very difficult," Quentin said of the suspension. "It's unfortunate that someone got hurt in this instance. But I do believe that I had to protect myself. And I will stand by that statement and at the same time I will begin my suspension."
It's nice to see Carlos act like a mature adult, but that means he will be preventing the rest of us from acting like immature children: he's going to miss the series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers beginning Monday night.
We are now deprived of at least one game of vicious booing and tense, broadcaster-speculation about retaliation. Thanks for nothing, jerk.
