Florida State Hires Oregon's Willie Taggart To Replace Jimbo Fisher
Photo: Otto Greule Jr/ [object Object] It only took Florida State a few days to find a replacement head coach after Jimbo Fisher took a king’s ransom to move to Texas A&M. The Seminoles, who became bowl eligible with a win in a rescheduled game against Louisiana-Monroe this past weekend, announced today that they’ve hired Willie Taggart, who coached previously at Western Kentucky, South Florida, and Oregon.
Taggart leaves Oregon after just one season, and his was a mostly anonymous year on the field. He led the Ducks to a 7-5 record, though that’s not too bad when you consider that Oregon was 4-8 the year before, and starting quarterback Justin Herbert fractured his collarbone following a 4-1 start. However, Taggart drew the most attention before he even coached a game in Eugene, when three of his players were hospitalized after intense offseason workouts, and a member of his staff was arrested for a DUI five days after he was hired.
