The Dodgers Seemingly Want Their Fans To Stop Beating People Into Comas
Six days after a San Francisco Giants fan was brutally beaten outside Dodger Stadium, former LAPD Chief William Bratton has been hired to review security at and around the park. Said team owner Frank McCourt, Bratton will "lead a top-to-bottom review of our current practices and make recommendations to be implemented now and into the future."
Likely recommendation No. 1: Convincing the fans to stop accepting excessive rowdiness and/or knifeplay.
Moments after he texted a cousin to say he felt "scared inside the stadium," 42-year-old father of two and paramedic Bryan Stow was beaten to the point that doctors needed to medically induce a coma. Stow is still getting treatment for a severe skull fracture and frontal-lobe bruising and doctors say he's showing signs of "brain injury and dysfunction." Heartbreaking, and disgusting. There's a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the two dirtbags who did that to him.
The Giants will urge fans from both teams to refrain from violence Monday when the Giants host the Dodgers at AT&T Park.
"We'll ask fans to come together and have the two teams join before the game to remind people what respectful rivalry is," Giants spokeswoman Shana Daum said. "The rivalry should stay on the field."
The first game of the series will be dedicated to Stow. Hopefully, he'll have woken up and started showing signs of improvement by then.
