Today In Wacky Reportage: How To Slightly Annoy Hockey Players
Whenever the Blackhawks score a goal at home, the Fratellis' "Chelsea Dagger" blares over the loudspeakers. A plucky reporter played it to several Canucks in an attempt either to psych them out or to recreate a moment from a terrible ABC sitcom.
Crappy beer commercial usage aside, it's a fitting song for a goal celebration, what with the ease with which a crowd can sing along and all. But the range of emotions on display here — bemused annoyance at the tune's catchiness, edging toward dread — is what is most interesting. How many athletes do you think would even sit down for a session of A Clockwork Orange-like abuse such as this? No one would've treated Stan Smyl this way.
