Rugby Fight Gets Right To Lots Of Punching
The State of Origin, which annually pits New South Wales (Blues) against Queensland (Maroons), is hailed as "Australian sport's greatest rivalry." And when tempers flare, niceties like staring each other down and talking shit while being held back don't apply.
The Blues' Paul Gallen joined a tackle by swinging his arm right into the face of the Maroons' Nate Myles, who responded by pushing Gallen after the restart. Gallen, in turn, saw that as an invitation to swing away, even as the match resumed. Laurie Daley, the Blues' coach, called Gallen's behavior "a great Origin moment." Myles, we hasten to add, was once suspended for pooping in a hallway. What kind of a sport is this?
