DC United Displeasing Adu's Overlords
This image was lost some time after publication. If you've been curious about what's the heck has been going on with Freddy Adu and his dispute with D.C. United, you can get a full blow-by-blow of the motivations behind his complaints at the great Off Wing Opinion. The site's leader Eric McErlain points out that the conventional wisdom that Adu is being "immature" by complaining about his playing time is naive and ridiculous; remember, this guy is already an industry and is almost certainly being puppeted by every sponsor he has.
So when you hear somebody saying that Adu is simply acting his age, don't believe it for a second. Plenty of folks have millions of dollars invested in this kid and his career. And if he isn't getting on the pitch regularly and scoring goals, those agents and sponsors aren't going to be happy.
Only problem with this otherwise spot-on observation? Adu is 34 years old.
