Blogdom's Best: Denver Broncos
This image was lost some time after publication. It might not — yet — have the online fanaticism and cachet of baseball, but the NFL and its fans are starting to catch up in the world of team-devoted blogs. To this end, Deadspin salutes these modem-addled souls and proudly presents Blogdom's Best, given to the most outstanding blog for each NFL team. There are fewer than there are for baseball, but they're out there, if you look. If you would like to nominate a blog (yours, even) for selection, just let us know at [email protected]. Today: The Denver Broncos.
For today's indelible Denver Broncos image, we refer you to noted philosopher Homer Simpson. We forget the exact episode, but Marge has just rewarded him for one thing or another, and they walk through the front door to be greeted by an entire pro football team on their front lawn. Homer: (disappointed) "Ahhh, the Denver Broncos?" Marge: "What's wrong with the Denver Broncos?" Homer: "Oh Marge, you just don't understand football." Of course that was the old, Orange Crush we'll-find-a-way-to-lose Denver Broncos, which had been to four Super Bowls, losing all by lopsided scores. That was before back-to-back World championships in 1998-99 launched Mike Shanahan and John Elway to superstardom. What would Homer say now? We're not sure. As for 2005, the Broncos are doing splendidly — although not in quite the form to ultimately tip the crown from the head of the Indianapolis Colts. But who knows? Stranger things have happened. In closing we are also reminded of an anecdote we heard recently, about a woman who had just heard about Mile High Stadium. She then replied: "Wow, it must be hard to see the field." Oh yeah, and Wahoo McDaniel also played for this team.
3. The Orange County. Classic blognicity, but what's happened since Thanksgiving? We suspect foul play, or a massive turkey hangover. 2. Thin Air. Great original writing and news. 1. Rocky Mountain Stampede. Although many bloggers report problems with AOL Journals, these guys seem to have the technical end figured out. Great blog. (Check out the candid photo of inconsolable Raiders fans drowning their sorrows at a local sports bar after losing to the Broncos).
