Oh China, what are we going to do with you? Mere hours after the first high-profile lawmaker called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies, the Chinese government responded to concerns about its record on human rights the way that you thought it would: By banning scary movies. Yep, it's now illegal in Beijing to sell a copy of Hostel: Part II for the duration of the Games.
Producers have around three weeks to look through their tapes for "horror" and report it to authorities, the General Administration of Press and Publications said in a statement posted on the government Web site. Offending content included "wronged spirits and violent ghosts, monsters, demons, and other inhuman portrayals, strange and supernatural storytelling for the sole purpose of seeking terror and horror," the administration said.
So, the following are definitely banned:
• Halloween.
• Friday the 13th
• The Exorcist
• Planet Terror
On the bubble:
• Ghost Dad
• Addams Family Values
• The Mummy II
• King Kong
Although horrible and frightening, probably OK:
• Over Her Dead Body
• Jumper
• Any Given Sunday
• Good Luck Chuck
Instant death penalty if caught with:
But seriously; WTF, China? With all the genuine misery occurring on in the world that you could help stop, you have the police running around confiscating copies of Alien Vs. Predator? And I thought our priorities were messed up.

Possession of any Kate Hudson film is punishable by death.
They can have my copy of Slumber Party Massacre II when they pry it from my cold, dead hand. Unfortunately in China, they don't have a big problem with that.
What are their stances on Death Becomes Her and Wendy Meets Casper ?
@UkraineNotWeak: except Almost Famous. That's a great movie.
...and other inhuman portrayals...
So every Keanu Reeves movie is banned, right?
China has a problem with "inhuman portrayals"? Did I miss something?
"wronged spirits and violent ghosts, monsters, demons, and other inhuman portrayals"
So basically any movie with Gary Busey is completely out of the question.
@UkraineNotWeak: As opposed to the slow death one suffers from watching it?

Tiger-birdie, birdie, birdie--All Square
What, isn't everyone listening to golf on the radio?
/golfjack
Old Boy, Ong-Bak, and Audition.
All the reasons why the Chinese are trying to keep the Koreans, Thai, and Japanese people down.
Nightmare on Elm Street - Banned
2girls1cup - Probably ok
What about Ghostbusters? Bill Murray was scary in that one. Scary good.
If we're banning "Ghost Dad", might as well burn those copies of "Leonard Part 6" too.
@UkraineNotWeak: And boom goes the Tiger.
Also, ironically for Jumper, apparently China is not possible.
Come on, nobody is buying Cameron Diaz as an angry win-at-all-costs NFL owner?
@thesepretzels: Sadly I did that before the Golf Channel coverage came on.
@Lady Andrea:
Great if you excise a majority of her scenes. To me, she was the worse thing in the film. The "Tiny Dancer" scene on the bus is cringed worthy.
@Weed Against Speed: @HazelMaesLandingStrip: According to our logic, if you have a copy of Point Break, they'll run you over with a tank.
@TheStarterWife: Not to mention the horror show that was Seven Years in Tibet.
@Its The Beer Talking:
Human rights violations: sure
Inhuman portrayals: No!
Faces of Death slipped by the censors as a documentary.
All producers found in violation of this ordinance are subject to torture by wronged spirit and violent ghost.
What about "So I Married An Axe Murdered"? It's a love story!
@Tuffy:
Otherwise known as Seven Years in a Theatre.
@Tuffy: Are you sure you're not thinking of the Golden Child?
There must be some Confucion what constitutes a horror movie.
...wronged spirits and violent ghosts...
Does Ghostface Killah's cameo in Walk Hard count?
What? No mention of the "Hottie and the Nottie"? Since it's grossed about $100 in US, maybe it could be the feel good movie of the summer in Beijing.
...wronged spirits and violent ghosts...
Does Ghostface Killah's cameo in Walk Hard count?
No, but the cheap vodka in Leaving Las Vegas does.
Once reported, Roger Goodell will oversee destruction of all offending video.
"Hold it right there! That video depicts torture and violence. Look at what those people are doing to those students. The police will surely confiscate that video."
"Those people in the video are the police."
"Oh . . ."
The people can't have a movie with portrayed inhuman portrayals, yet the government can perform lethal injection in their traveling Winnebago.

Tiger just added an eagle. Tournament looks over on Day 1.
@chilltown: -7 on his last 6 holes. That's insane.
@katolesce:
Nice commented fucking comment, redundant jackass.
2 of those 4 banned movies are in my top 10 movies - of any kind - of all time.
fuck a china.
@The Fan's Attic:
So maybe the Tianamen Square documentaries passed too?
@chilltown:
Golfing Tiger, Hidden DVD?
/shits pants
So is "Cheerleader Ninjas" on the list too?
JB Holmes didn't come close to making that putt.
@TheStarterWife: Maybe. Or was it "They Call Me Mr. Tibet"?
I've decided that China and Russia have a major inferiority complex and every time some other country makes news for something inhumane or downright crazy, they feel the need to up the ante just to remind us all that they corner the market on crazy. If they believed in markets that is.
What about dark live music performances with a Eurotrash looking guy?
+ Watch video
What about "Elmo's Potty Time"? I'm watching it right now, and the phrase "wee wee woo woo" scares me.
Ironically, Scary Movie is not banned.
What about...
+ Watch video
@-s: That's nothing compared to the Osi Umeniyora sex tape.
On a related note, 2 girls 1 cup is still banned, I take it?
What's China's position on men named Edith?
I'd support a crackdown on human rights in exchange for no more shitty Doug Liman movies.
@TebowWearsJorts: I believe it is not. However, Beverly Hills Ninja was one of the first to go.
What happened to you, China? You used to be cool.
