Storming The Floor wraps up the eight evening games.
Kansas State 80 USC 67
For all of the freshman attention the Mayo-Beasley matchup got, it was redshirt freshman Bill Walker that was the difference for the Wildcats in this mild upset. Walker, who usually doesn't get much press around these parts unless he's peeing in towels or eating popcorn while on the bench, lead the Wildcats with 22 points. The Trojans now take the early lead in the "team that screwed over the most brackets by the end of the weekend" race.
Duke 71 Belmont 70
When Belmont's inbound pass with :04 seconds remaining was intercepted by Duke's DeMarcus Nelson, you could hear Duke haters around the nation collectively smashing their hands off the coffee table. I mean, this would have been the height of Duke bashing, right? The Blue Devils would have been the first #2 seed to lose to a #15 seed since 2001, falling to a Belmont squad that fit the Cinderella description to tee, right down to Alex Renfroe doing his best Harold "The Show" Arceneaux impersonation. But Gerald Henderson had other plans, saving the Blue Devils with a coast-to-coast lay-up with 11.9 seconds left, as the Dukies would hang on for the win. We still have 47 more games to go in this NCAA Tournament, but you may be hard pressed to watch a better one than this game.
Washington State 71 Winthrop 40
With the game tied 29-29 at the half, everyone over the STF live-blog was pumped at the possibility of the tourney's first real upset. Foolishly, we switched from Duke-Belmont to this game, only to see Winthrop forget to leave the locker rooms or something, because they didn't score for the first eight minutes of the half as part of an 11-point second half. The Cougars outscored the Eagles 42-11 in the second half, if you are scoring at home. That must have been one shitty halftime speech for Winthrop. Big Aussie Aron Baynes lead the way for WSU with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
Texas A&M 67 BYU 62
Texas A&M's Josh Carter may have had the best individual performance of the day that no one noticed, scoring a career-high 26 points to lead the Aggies to the victory. Up 11-0 to start the game, the Aggies needed a late three by Dominique Kirk with: 25 seconds remaining to seal this one. Amazingly, A&M was one of only two lower seeds to win on the day. Lame.
Wisconsin 71 UC-Fullerton 56
Fullerton used a vast array of acrobatic shots to stay in this game throughout, but the Badgers used their size advantage (Fullerton had no one over 6'5) and German U-boat looking guy advantage to pull away in the second half. Butch scored 14 points while Krabbenhoft and Bohannon both had 13 in the Badger win.
UCLA 70 Mississippi Valley State 29
The good news for Mississippi Valley State? They finished the game tied with Bruins with seven steals! The bad news ... just about everything else. The Delta Devils were held to 29 points, the lowest point total in a tourney game since 1946. I watched this game for 10 minutes and can honestly say that it wasn't as close as the score indicated. Love finished with 20 points and 12 chest passes.
West Virginia 75 Arizona 65
'Zona could not seem to find a way to guard wither Alex Rouff or DeSean Butler, as the pair scorched the Cats from the outside as part of WVU's three-point assault. WVU ended up hitting 11 threes for the game. And for what seems to be about the fifth straight season, Arizona finishes the season playing to about 43% of its potential.
Notre Dame 68 George Mason 50
The Irish jumped out to an early 29-12 behind some hot shooting and quickly buried any thoughts Mason had of being "this year's George Mason." Man, don't you feel bad for Gus Johnson? The dude got four clunkers in the Denver regional, including this one, decided by the 10:00 mark of the first half.

Well, looks like Tim Floyd is who we thought he was.
INVISIBUL JOINT
Bill Walker peed in my NCAA pool.
"Man, don't you feel bad for Gus Johnson?"
answer: No, he got paid to watch/call four basketball games yesterday.
The Trojans now take the early lead in the "team that screwed over the most brackets by the end of the weekend" race.
I disagree - I think that honor goes to Winthrop. I bet more people had KSU winning than WSU winning.
The dude got four clunkers in the Denver regional
Did you see the school that was "hosting" it? My Rams, who went 0-16 in a conference that sent a whopping two teams to the dance.
Karma, thy name is shit.
Peeing in a towel? Great! Now I have no reason to leave the basement! - bloggers everywhere*
*may not be true
Hey guys - were there any college basketball games yesterday? I can't seem to find any info.
@UpstateUnderdog: I, too, got paid to watch basketball games yesterday
/mmod'd
I hope Arceneaux is working at a fast food joint. Bastard.
Duke, Belmont and Winthrop are the three WASPiest names in NCAA history. Even George Mason doesn't compete.
Welcome to our t-o-w-e-l. Notice there isn't any "P" in it. Let's keep it that way.
Excellent. Brauheist 2008 has started off swimmingly for Wisconsin's Little Nowitzkis...
@BigTenObsession: Tell me about it. SOB!
@The Teufel Shuffle: don't forget Drake, Butler, Cornell, and Davidson.
@Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies: come to think of it so did I.
Thanks for reminding me about the towel peeing incident. If I had remembered that I might have picked them to beat USC.
God, my bracket sucked yesterday. (George Mason? What was I thinking!) Let's hope Siena helps me turn things around today.
I think you got screwed if you were getting paid and not watching basketball yesterday.
Beasley. Good at free throws, bad at the Shocker.
@Wyshynski: Ahhh, summer camp memories. Did you go to Camp Tockwogh too?
My brackets are all jacked up, but I note with some enthusiasm that the two guys in my office who took off Thursday and Friday are doing worse than me. Ha!
Ever after saving Duke from an epic NCAA embarrassment with a coast-to-coast, Gerald Henderson's most important play remains the peoples elbow he delivered to Tyler Hansbrough last year.
Man, it wasn't for Hughes, Flowers & Carl Landry's little brother, the Badgers could be Nazi souljas in a WWII movie. I mean, just look at these aryans, er goyim, er guys:
Herr Josef Krabbenhoft ('o-face')
Herr Grigori Stiemsma (seriously, did they just clone Krabby?)
Herr Johan Leuer (guarding Patton Oswalt?)
Herr Tim Jarmusz
und "Mr. Iowa", Herr Jason Bahannon
Apparently, UW has perfected cloning technology!
couldn't agree more...the only difference this year for arizona is that they actually weren't that good. No worries - i'm sure the AD is used to booking the early morning flight on friday.
hey so... what's ahh... what's going on?
@UeckersEats: Tonight on A&E, the new series: Hitler Youth, brought to you by Volkswagen!
@Juancho: Your 2008 UW Boys from Brazil, er Badgers!
@UeckersEats: Yeah, but they sure hustle and are gritty and scrappy and play the game the right way and are fundamentally sound while also having a high basketball IQ.
Winthrop forget to leave the locker rooms or something
They were replaced on the court by some guy named Billy Ray Valentine.
Beaswheat say "o-tay"!
@Get Him A Body Bag, Yeah!: Jowohl, mein Herr! Sind wirklich das Basketball Ubermensch ab der Gross Zehn, nich wahr?
Seriously, Bo Ryan needs to coach a game dressed like Herr Doktor Merkwürdigelieben:

Even Zach Morley is sporting a buzz cut these days.
And if you're really interested in the full story (which you shouldn't be, it's not that interesting), it's here.
Is Wisconsin also the only team without sweet tats?
Hey Pete Jayhawk, suck on deez.
@Herr Doktor Merkwürdigelieben: der Fuhrer?
@Juancho: mein Fuhrer?
@Juancho: Mein Gott!
@Herr Doktor Merkwürdigelieben: If it got 'em a win, even ever-so-progressive Madison, Wisc., would be down. That sort of militarism (re-enactment) wouldn't "merit" an on-campus bombing.
/disappointed Kent State gets all the sad/worried looks come tournament time
/supposes "counterrevolutionary" violence is "better" than governmental violence
/not really
/realizes his father knows the bombers
/shits pants
