A "bold" proclamation: If Memphis doesn't at least make the Final Four this year, no matter what their record is next year, they're not getting a No. 1 seed. The team has looked downright wobbly so far and just about blew it yesterday. Though at least Derrick Rose was able to keep playing past the first round ... unlike some people.
At this point, it wouldn't be any more surprising to see Michigan State, Texas or Stanford in the Final Four than Memphis; of all the regions, the South seems the most up in the air despite it (mostly) falling according to seed. Memphis went 6-1 against NCAA Tourney teams this year. Their loss was to Tennessee — the only one of those teams still left in the tournament. (And wobbling.) Sorry: We're not gonna believe in Memphis anymore. Uncle.
Besides, anything that keeps the Stanford Tree hanging around.

"Coach, gimme a piece of that prayer!"
That sound you just heard was everyone's brackets being crinkled up and thrown into the fire because they had Pitt.
I had Pitt upsetting Memphis, but Stanford winning this region. Calipari can try and pass off bad free throw shooting all he likes -- doesn't mean it won't screw his team over.
Texas still the one to get out of this mess...of only because of my logic that they are playing in Houston.
Sparty is going to beat Memphis. They are athletic enough to run, smart enough to run some offense and deep enough to foul the shit out of them. Plus Izzo is just a better coach than Calipari. Texas, however will benefit from the Houston location and beat MSU in the Regional final. Home cookin' hard to beat.
@Signal to Noise: Its not there fault, that curtain pulled back and the sun was blinding them.
Shaq, Ben Wallace, and Chris Dudley all think Memphis is just fine at their free throw shooting.
@The Boy Wonder: their fault either
great, now my bracket's got no chance. Once you've lost Leitch, you've lost the nation.
@Sheepblog: @The Boy Wonder: Texas may get the benefit of the refs, but they shot free throws just barely better than Memphis. I don't think playing Stanford plays to their strengths.
Spartans, what is your profession?
I have Texas to win this region. If only they would shorten the games to 35 minutes because Texas has stopped playing both of their games with about 5 minutes left. Thank God, they had large leads in both games.
"Derrick, Here is the church...and here is the steeple..and look inside and see all the people!"
Well I just don't see UNC or UCLA losing this next round but Memphis is one of those games that can in fact go either way.
Heartfelt congrats to the entire Hoosier Nation on an outstanding season.
The Sons Of David will not be denied.....until they play Wisconsin.
Between Calipari, Barnes and Ty Willingham, there are a lot of idiot coaches left in this region.
I am not drinkin' what they're selling. And I don't even know how Memphis affords that rock and roll lifestyle.
@Sheepblog: Which Michigan State team were you watching this year?
Let's not forget this old nugget about John Calipari.
"He seemed to be preparing everyone just in case his choice is to trade down or his choice is Bryant (Kobe). "I'm not worried about immediate gratification," Calipari said. "Three years from now, that's what I'm worried about. Believe me when I tell you, if I think it's the right thing to do, I'll do it.""

If its the wobbling you are afraid of, why are you endorsing the Tree?
@Leitch, @Sheepblog: Shhhhh! What's the matter with you people? You're just asking for a 50-point Memphis drubbing.
If you would've told me Pitt would shoot about 90% from the line and lose on Saturday, I would've bet the house against it. Fuckin' Neitzel. I hate that guy.
But nobody else in the C-USA has lost an NCAA tournament game!
let's just hope the Spartans don't shit the bed.
Oh and Calipari yeah right. Don't worry about missing free throws, the couldn't effect the outcome of the game.
Illinois are you out there? Will?
@OchentaYcinco: c'mon he's the great white hope?
/Spartan fan and hate him too
@theballadofrickeyfoggie:
I'm assuming the one that beat Texas.
Why would anyone have believed in them from the get-go. They're out next round.
I don't know if the Tigers will knock off Texas but they will beat Michigan State and you can put it at the top of the paper in two-inch headlines.
@theballadofrickeyfoggie:
The one that beat Texas on a neutral court - the one that had UCLA beat earlier this year. The Big Ten requires ugly basketball becuase the conference plays ugly. Morgan, Lucas, Walton (and you can throw Nietzel in there too) can run...and Suton and not far behind.
@BigTenObsession: And also scored 36 in a loss to Iowa?
@theballadofrickeyfoggie: and 103 against Iowa. We could all day with the Jekyl and Hyde. That's just the team they have been this year.
@tomsearlyexit: Indiana excuse me
if Memphis is selling BBQ or collect phone calls to my Marie, then i'll buy.
"I can barely see the guy and he's killing us."
/All Pitt fans
@The Boy Wonder: That was the biggest whiny-bitch moment I've seen so far in the tournament. And I watched the Duke games too.
I'll play devil's advocate on this one. The Tigers aren't really a 46% free throw shooting team. if they make their usual 59%, that game would not have been nearly as close. They squeaked by in an ugly game, something they've done all season against quality opponents like USC. It's a mistake to underestimate this team based on one bad game.
@drewheyman: +2`
memphis showed us why they are gonna lose in the first close game they play in (cough, FT, cough).
oh and UNC too, but that's bc Roy Williams is a clown that comes unglued at the seams
Gordon didn't play past February.
