Kalou Saves Chelsea, Unbeaten At the Bridge For 85 Straight
Neither Chelsea nor Manchester were entirely fit, but the sides put on another exciting match at Stamford Bridge. Ji-Sung Park put the Red Devils on the board 18 minutes into the game when Petr Cech was unable to hold on to Dimitar Berbatov's shot and for a while it looked like that could somehow be enough. Fortunately for the home side substitute Salomon Kalou was left unmarked on a corner kick with time running low in the second half, and the Ivorian headed the ball into the corner of the net to lock up the draw. Things could have been quite a bit worse for Manchester, who lost keeper Edwin van der Sar in the first half when he came out to challenge Florent Malouda. Although the Frenchman clearly beat the keeper to the ball there was no penalty called on the play. Chelsea had plenty of other chances to pull out a victory, but Anelka and Joe Cole seemed determined to botch every chance that came their way. Chelsea played without Deco and Carvalho because of injuries during warm-ups and Tevez never entered the match for Manchester, despite being available on the bench. Both Drogba and Ronaldo entered as substitutes in the second half. As for the other Manchester side... New-look Man City put a crushing on poor Pompey to the tune of 6-0. Ever the democratic side, each of City's goals came from a different member of the squad. This included strikes from the Brazilians Robinho and Jo, as well as native son SWP. Don't sleep on Hull. Because Everton certainly did, and they remain a point behind Hull City on the Premier League table. The newly promoted club managed a 2-2 draw against the Toffees. Phil Neville had an own goal in the tie.
