ESPN Doles Out Swift Bristol Justice Over New York Post's Erin Andrews Coverage
Norby Inc. pushed the red button on some innocent after the paper went a little too titsy with its Andrews cover on Monday morning.
Newsday's Neil Best reports that ESPN's mad — grievously mad — and is disassociating itself from the paper until further notice:
"In light of the New York Post's decision to run graphic photos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, we have decided to stop utilizing Post reporters on any of our outlets," ESPN's senior VP of communications, Chris LaPlaca said.
"Erin was grievously wronged here, and while we understand the Post's decision to cover this as a news story, their running photos obtained in such a fashion went well beyond the boundaries of common decency in the interest of sensationalism. This is not a decision we undertook lightly, but we feel it is an appropriate one."
Some of the departed::
• Kevin Kernan ("First Take")
• Lenn Robbins ("First Take")
• Joel Sherman (1050 ESPN Radio)
• Mark Cannizzaro (Lots of things)
Pour one out for tonight for these guys, for they were just "innocent bystanders."
Oh, and I've also been informed that one Jay Mariotti will go nuclear about the Erin Andrews issue and certain blogs in his upcoming Fanhouse column. Fun.
