Visiting Reporters Deemed Unworthy Of Watching The Yankees Play

The Steinbrenners require the best of everything, including a luxurious Spring Training field named for Papa George. You wouldn't know it if you're the visiting team's beat reporter, whose press pass ought to be marked "obstructed view."

It started innocently enough on Saturday, when Bryan Hoch, the Yankees reporter for MLB.com, posted a photo of his view from the press box at Steinbrenner Field. Lovely, right? Life is good when you're on the Yankees' side.

Not so good if you're there to cover the opponents, though. Jordan Bastian, the Blue Jays guy at MLB.com, found his view of the greatest Yankee ever (Jeter, obviously) blocked by a picture of the second-greatest Yankee ever. That had better be a load-bearing picture frame.

Hoch got in a zinger though, telling Bastian, "I'd better be reading about The Babe in your gamer!"

Honestly, Spring Training's a long, boring slog for the beat guys. There's little to write about, but a ton of column space to fill. These are the kinds of mini-scandals that get them through March. So let them have it, and don't feel too bad for Bastian, who was able to catch up on his Solitaire.
