Today In Ostracizing Johnny Weir's Gayness: Stars On Ice

Stars On Ice, the touring show that lets its skaters be as creative and flamboyant as they want, has turned down Johnny Weir. GLAAD says it's because of his sexual orientation. We say it's because they can't handle the fabulousness.

Weir says he's tried for years to be a part of Stars On Ice, but been rejected every time because he's not "family friendly." That's a world-class euphemism in a long history of euphemisms, and GLAAD's jumping into the fray with some world-class understatements.

Weir's performance and costume style is sometimes considered flashier than those of other skaters, leading to questions about his perceived sexual orientation. While Weir has not officially announced his sexual orientation, he has garnered a significant amount of LGBT fans.

For their part, Stars On Ice say it's just a scheduling conflict, and they don't have room for Weir on tour. Although, they somehow found room for Rachael Flatt, the least interesting skater ever.

Don't worry about Johnny Weir withdrawal, though.

Weir's plan is to stage his own tour, which he promised would be a "crazy, over-the-top fantasy show."

"It could be really incredible and something for everyone really," he said. "I mean, I'm not opposed to anything crazy — Flying Elephants, Madison Square Garden, lots of glitz and glamour. That's what my show would look like."

Suddenly, Stars On Ice looks like a Westboro Baptist protest meeting by comparison.
