Implosion Destructo-Porn: Texas Stadium Edition
Preceded by fireworks (and onlookers paying an admission fee), the 39-year-old Texas Stadium was reduced to rubble this morning. Jerry Jones is a secular Shiva: destroying, in order to re-create.
Stadium implosions are never quite as cool as I imagine. An implosion, to me, is the entire thing contracting to a singularity, then winking out of existence altogether. But I suppose more than a ton of dynamite bringing the place down on itself should be sufficiently awesome.
This being a 21st century demolition, it was sponsored: by Kraft Cheddar Explosion Mac and Cheese. And one lucky 11-year-old got to push the button, after winning an essay contest. (Though from the video it looks like it went off without his input, since he seems as surprised as anyone when the explosions begin.)
Hope everyone enjoyed this one. Forty years from now, it'll take a nuke to bring down Cowboys Stadium.
