Braves-Phillies Turned Into A Home Run Party
The Braves outlasted the Phillies 9-6 in what turned out to be a surprise slugfest. The game was a 2-1 snoozer until the eighth inning, when Evan Gattis, Dan Uggla, and Andrelton Simmons went back-to-back-to-back for the Braves. Between the two teams, there were five home runs in the final two innings.
Once the Phillies finally retired Atlanta in the eighth, they were down 5-1 with the only offense coming off a solo Ryan Howard home run way back in the second. But that next half-inning, Marlon Byrd drove in two runs and set up Domonic Brown with runners on first and second. Brown put the Phillies back on top, 6-5.]
It looked like the Phillies had stolen a win from a sure-defeat, but then Dan Uggla hit a grand slam in the ninth inning and took the lead right back.
Both Uggla and Gattis had two home runs on the night and Simmons made five total for Atlanta, all helping the Braves come back twice from the sixth inning on to beat the Phillies.
