In Cleveland, "LeBron" Has Become The Eighth Word You Can't Say On The Radio
A radio station in Cleveland has edited out the reference to "LeBron" in Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind." The DJ, Joel "Java" Murphy, had an "epiphany" and reversed the name. "It's subtle, just enough to get the point across," Murphy says.
When 96.5 WAKS now plays the song, which it does often, the line ("[If] Jeezy's paying LeBron, I'm paying Dwyane Wade") remains, but the name is now edited and unintelligible — unless you know what Jay-Z is saying anyways, which is of course the silly subtle point here.
"I was playing the song and realized that the word 'LeBron' is as offensive to some people as the ‘Seven Words You Can't Say On The Radio,'" Murphy told WFNY. "The reaction has been immediate. Listeners thought it was a brilliant idea."
The Heat currently hold a slim lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Miami tonight. L***** has 21 points. Cleveland Radio Station Edits "LeBron" in Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" [WFNY]
