Caps Coach Calls MSG Facilities "Horrible," Is Correct
The Washington Capitals were at Madison Square Garden last night for a 3-2 loss to the Rangers, and they'll play again on Wednesday evening. Head coach Bruce Boudreau would rather they didn't have to. He went on the The Kirk McEwen and Mike O'Meara Morning Show on D.C.'s "The Edge" this morning to tell them that the Garden was "horrible." The locker rooms are "horrible." The benches, Boudreau says, are "horrible." Everything is horrible!
We imagine this might be cause for an uproar, or at least for some spirited chants in the Garden come Wednesday, but Boudreau is just being honest. Madison Square Garden will get its much-needed face-lift before the 2011-2012 seasons begin — or, in optimistic New Yorker Barry Petchesky's words, "whenever the Knicks and Rangers are eliminated from the playoffs." Until that happens, we can agree that the old structure is (while historic and beloved and enjoyably outdated and all that) a pretty awful venue. Especially for visiting teams. But that doesn't make it "nothing."
