Today, Consider Bankrupting Dan Gilbert For A Good Cause
Nick Gilbert, bespoke son of Comic Sans-loving Cavaliers owner Dan, became your new favorite meme for about six hours Tuesday night when he presided over Cleveland's unlikely NBA draft lottery win. (And he too cued something in between dickishness and awkward humor from Timberwolves GM David Kahn.)
Nick, who has neurofibromatosis, a nerve disorder that causes tumors throughout the body, attended the draft as an ambassador for the Children's Tumor Foundation. A fine fellow from that organization contacted us this morning to relay this: Dan Gilbert is matching donations to the foundation dollar-for-dollar this week, and today is the last day to donate. They've raised nearly $38,000 so far.
So, Cavs fans and others, here's your chance. If you want to make Gilbert pony up, and in the process keep some cash from going to an inevitable JJ Hickson max extension, do so here posthaste.
