BBC Mistakenly Confuses Media Gadfly For Baseball Expert, Substantial Awkwardness Ensues
Ben Walker writes about baseball for the Associated Press—you'll see his byline, or, perhaps, his words fairly often. Michael Wolff is not Ben Walker. Wolff is a media writer for Vanity Fair, which would never have heard of baseball were Michael Lewis not on its masthead.
Accordingly, Wolff has heard little of baseball. And, when he appeared on the BBC last week and was confused for Ben Walker, he at first hoped the anchor would soon realize his mistake and cut to another feed. But no, the anchor continued to press him as though he was Walker.
So Wolff set him straight and said he was not Walker, and indeed knew nothing of the game. Of course, the flustered presenter chap pretended as though the whole thing never happened.
Yet somehow it wouldn't surprise us if this was the most riveting baseball discussion ever to air on the BBC.
