Watch A High School Kicker Nail A 64-Yard Field Goal With Room To Spare
Austin Pacheco, a high school senior out of Carson City, Nev. who will probably be made very rich by an NFL contract in a few years, kicked a game-winning field goal on Friday night—from 64 yards and with room to spare. This is, if you recall, one yard longer than Sebastian Janikowski's record-tying 63-yard field goal in Denver two weeks ago, which was, if you recall, an NFL record.
Pacheco, who admittedly had the benefit of a tee and some wind at his back on Friday, had been told by his coach before the game that he'd be called out for "anything 65 and under." The kick from 64 is the fourth longest in high school history, and the second longest in Nevada state history (former NFL player Dirk Borgognone hit one from 68 in 1985). It's also simply unbelievable for anyone who grew up watching high school players struggle to convert PAT chip shots.
