West Virginia To The Big 12 Means The Big East Might Be Coming After Your Grade School
So much for all of that Big East solidarity talk in the wake of Pitt's and Syracuse's departures. Here it is one month later, and word is out that the Mountaineers have "applied and are accepted" as members of the Big 12. Pete Thamel of the New York Times played it straight by adding this: "The only good news for the Big East is that the Big 12 planned to stay at 10 teams for now, the person said. That will spare the Big East any more critical losses and give it a chance to build into the 12-team model that it would prefer." Left scrambling to keep its space at the BCS trough, the Big East gets to sort through the service academies, Boise State, SMU, Central Florida, Temple, and Villanova.
