Lou Holtz Nixed From Speaking At Gala After Immigration Comments
Photo Credit: [object Object] /South Bend Tribune, Robert Franklin, Pool Less than a week after an El Paso, Texas high school named Lou Holtz as a speaker for its 90th anniversary gala, they have revoked the offer.
Holtz, you may remember, shared some of his thoughts on immigration at the Republican National Convention last month: namely, that it is an “invasion.” This was followed with, “I don’t want to speak your language, I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team.”
So when Cathedral High School listed Holtz as a speaker for their upcoming 90th anniversary gala last week, a number of current and former students at the heavily Hispanic high school were understandably frustrated. Six days later, the school’s principal told the that Holtz would no longer be speaking at the fundraiser, adding that they had begun making arrangements with the former ESPN analyst before his comments at the RNC.
Holtz’s attendance at the convention came after his endorsement of Donald Trump for president in May—in a video in which he praised Trump’s golf courses and cited them as proof of Trump’s strength as a leader—because that makes sense—while wearing a Notre Dame football quarter zip.
