Former Georgetown Coach John Thompson Doesn't Know What Herpes Is [UPDATE]
Here's a clip from yesterday's John Thompson Show on ESPN 980 in Washington, D.C., during which a discussion of Ryan Braun's PED incident took place. (Deadspin edited about a minute from the discussion for brevity.) The program quickly moves onto a new topic once Thompson mentions that he doesn't know what herpes is and is informed "it's a venereal disease."
I can't blame J.T. too much, because if there's anything I've learned from the Internet it's that a lot of people think herpes is a plural noun meaning cold sores, e.g. " Check out the herpe on Tim Tebow's lip." Now that Wikipedia is back, feel free to look it up yourself—or just watch this clip from Beverly Hills Cop.
h/t to Wes
Update (3:25 p.m.): Dan Steinberg suggests the voice asking what herpes is belongs to Thompson's co-host, Rick "Doc" Walker.
Update 2 (3:35 p.m.): ESPN 980 says it's indeed Doc Walker who didn't know what herpes was. We apologize for suggesting otherwise.
