Blood Writes: Surviving A Car Accident With Bloody Faces
Welcome to Blood Week. We put out the call on Friday for your tales of of blood, violence, gruesome injuries, near-death experiences, mayhem, and blood. Many of you came through with submissions, which we'll be posting throughout the week. If you have a story and/or photos to share, email [email protected], with Blood Week in the subject line.
First up is Washington Foreskins, who, along with his family, is certainly lucky to have survived this one:
When I was thirteen, my mother, father, brother and I were all driving from upstate NY to visit the grandparents in the Bronx. It was in the middle of February, and while it wasn't snowing, driving conditions were pretty rough as we were going through Hackensack, New Jersey.
I don't remember what anyone was talking about at that point in the trip, but I do remember being in the far left lane when a black car cut us off from the middle lane. My mom jerked the wheel a little, sending our modest Chevy Malibu across four lanes of traffic and head on into a guard rail. We must have done a 180, and hit with impact so hard, I don't remember it.
When I came to after a second, I remember looking at everyone else in the car. Everyone's face was covered in blood. I mean, covered. I was drinking a bunch [of my own blood] too, as I realized my nose had blown up all over the seat in front of me.
Everyone ended up being fine, despite some broken noses, airbag lacerations, and heads hitting windshields. Still, I'll never forget what it's like to taste a gallon of your own nose blood, then look up and see everyone else in your immediate family looking like they took the Carrie bath.
