Blood Writes: When Kicking The Bottle Goes Wrong
Welcome to Blood Week. We put out the call on Friday for your tales of of blood, violence, gruesome injuries, near-death experiences, mayhem, and blood. Many of you came through with submissions, which we'll be posting throughout the week. If you have a story and/or photos to share, email [email protected], with Blood Week in the subject line.
Jonathan is next up, and his story offers a little lesson for all of us to keep in mind the next time a glass bottle is just recklessly lying there, demanding to be kicked:
It was the summer after my junior year of college and I had just finished a night of work waiting tables. I went out to a house party and had a few beers, nothing too serious. As I left the party, I noticed a beer bottle on the driveway on the way to my car. Being a dipshit college kid, I figured I'd give it a kick for fun. I did not try to destroy this bottle mind you, I only tried to "thru pass" it, giving it light but solid contact. Well, the bottle broke and I thought nothing of it at the time. After several steps I noticed a squishing sound coming every time I planted my right foot. I looked down and saw that my white sneaker had turned blood red. I quickly removed it to find a blood-soaked sock and then took THAT off. As I held my cell phone close to by big toe to get a better look, a spurt of blood shot from a small cut in my toe at the distance of about 3 feet away from me. I nearly fell over in horror. I thought I was going to die from kicking a fucking beer bottle. I put the sock and shoe back on and tied it as tightly as I could and drove to the ER; I was immediately admitted. Everyone was looking at me like I was insane because every step I took looked like the first steps a serial murderer takes when he flees the scene of chopping up 10 people. They said I nicked an artery in my toe. That would've been a shitty way to die so, don't kick beer bottles.
