Report: The Redskins Also Had A Cash-For-Injuries Program Under Gregg Williams
The Washington Post reports that former Redskins say they had a bounty system similar to the Saints', where players would be rewarded for hits that injuring opponents. Instead of New Orleans's "cart-offs" and "knockouts," the Skins under Gregg Williams paid out sums for "kill shots."
The payouts ranged from the "hundreds to thousands of dollars," with the biggest sum for a single hit being $8000. "Sean Taylor made a lot," said Phillip Daniels, the only player to go on the record.
Daniels says Williams merely rewarded "physical play." The other three players the Post spoke to didn't want their names used, but one said Williams "just took it a little too far." Another said that "if you took the star player out, he'd hook you up a little bit."
Williams was the defensive coordinator in Washington from 2004 to 2007. It's worth noting that Peyton Manning Tony Dungy has said his current neck problems began with two hits he took playing against the Redskins in 2006—the second, a high hit from Phillip Daniels.
