Nolan Ryan And Robin Ventura Exchanged Pleasantries Yesterday
For the first time since participating in the glorified noogie seen 'round the world, Nolan Ryan and newly-minted White Sox manager Robin Ventura met up with each other prior to the Rangers home opener against Chicago. Ryan, the face of the Rangers franchise, and Ventura have somehow never crossed paths in the almost 19 years since their infamous tussle.
The Rangers typically show a highlight video, which includes the fight, but decided to cut that part out as a sign of respect for the new manager. Ryan also told reporters before the game that he would pay a visit to Ventura and wish him luck. He not only wished him luck, the two even reportedly shook hands in the tunnel.
No hard feelings, Nolan said.
"I don't think so," he said. "That's been so far back in our histories.
"It's just one of those things that kind of took on a life of its own."
At the White Sox workout the day before, Ventura had issued similar disclaimers about the incident.
Growing up and maturing is just the worst, isn't it?
