Andrew Shaw Earned A Game Misconduct After Leveling Phoenix Goalie Mike Smith With This Headshot
Chicago winger Andrew Shaw drew a five-minute charging penalty and game misconduct after this incident in the second period of tonight's Game Two matchup between the Blackhawks and Coyotes in Phoenix in which Shaw dropped Mike Smith with a shot to the head.
While Blackhawks broadcasters debated whether Shaw actually intended to hit Smith, officials came down hard on Chicago—and it only took Phoenix 90 seconds to take advantage of the major penalty to take a 3-2 lead.
Smith would, after waking up, stay in the game. He missed several months in 2009 with postconcussion symptoms. [CSN Chicago]
Update (11:53 p.m.): During the intermission break, NBC Sports Network analyst (and former Blackhawks star) Jeremy Roenick suggested Shaw's in line for a suspension due to the NHL rules on hits to the head.
