The NFL May Put The Pro Bowl Out Of Its Misery
The Pro Bowl is pointless. I know this, you know this, the players sure as hell know it, and the league has been trying little tweaks to hold off the inevitable. But playing it before the Super Bowl hasn't helped, nor has holding it in Miami. According to Chris Mortensen, enough is enough, and the NFL may finally take the Pro Bowl out back and put a bullet in its head.
According to Mort, the league could "suspend" the Pro Bowl as early as this year. It would still live on, in theoretical form: the NFLPA wouldn't let all the contracts with Pro Bowl bonuses become void. But it would just be fan voting for a sort of All-NFL Team, that exists only on paper, and that's probably good enough. If you're good enough to make the Pro Bowl, you can—or soon will be able to—afford a Hawaiian vacation without flinching.
