Brewers Closer John Axford Blows Save, Endears Himself To Media Anyway
Normally when a player fails to "take his lumps" or "stand up and face the music" or however else you'd like to phrase "talk to the media after screwing up," he is taken to task. John Axford, however, had a pretty good excuse and let the media know via handwritten message.
The Brewers beat the Cubs in 13 innings last night, but it only went that far because John Axford blew the save. It was the first time in 49 opportunities he had failed to do so. On the spectrum of good excuses not to talk to the media after screwing up, "taking pregnant wife to the hospital" is a pretty good one. Still, it's too bad—we're left hanging on what other "Cliche...Cliche..." he was going to use.
