Rangers Announcer Dave Barnett Starts Speaking Nonsense During Broadcast, Claims Go-Ahead Run Is At "Fifth" Base [UPDATE]
The bottom of the eighth inning of last night's Rangers-Padres game from San Diego turned weird during tonight's broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest as longtime broadcaster Dave Barnett appeared to completely lose his mind, claiming a runner was at "fifth" base and then trailing off into a story about "henchmen" and a "botched robbery."
It's not clear if Barnett was attempting to make a stretched analogy or if he suffered a brief medical condition, much along the lines of this Los Angeles news reporter several years ago. If so, get well soon, Dave. Otherwise, we'll be looking for answers in the morning. [FSSW]
Update (12:44 p.m.): Reader Steven let us know Dallas Morning News reporter Evan Grant appeared on KTCK-AM this morning and said the lapse may have been due to the severe migraines Barnett suffers. If so, that really sucks, though it could be a lot worse.
