Asian Football Confederation Does Racist Thing, Blames Wikipedia
An article recently appeared on the Asian Football Confederation's website that referred to the United Arab Emirates' national soccer team as the "Sand Monkeys." That's a really racist thing to do, in case you didn't know.
So what the hell happened? Is some crazy racist writing articles for the Asian Football Confederation? Not quite, according to the Associated Press:
The AFC called it a "genuine mistake" inserted by a new writer who saw "Sand Monkeys" wrongly listed as the team's nickname on its Wikipedia page. The team's actual nickname is Al Abyad, or The White, and the Wikipedia page has been corrected.
Well that explains it. The AFC isn't employing virulent racists, but rather people who rely on Wikipedia to provide them with important information and trust that everything on Wikipedia is 100 percent true. Nothing wrong with that. It's a method that many of the world's most respected journalists practice every day.
