Brittney Griner Threw Down This Dunk, And Women's College Hoops Had A Very Good Night
Last night in South Bend, Ind., a women's college basketball game between the sports' Nos. 2 and 3—Notre Dame and UConn, respectively—went to triple OT to decide the Big East. The Fighting Irish defeated UConn, 96-87, to earn its second straight regular-season conference title and become the first team in two decades to win six of seven against UConn. Senior guard Skylar Diggins scored 29 points, including a pretty fast-break layup down the stretch, and UConn lost, which is still enough of a rarity that it warrants mention.
Farther south, in Waco, Texas, Brittney Griner the sport's most dominant player, went for 50 points and threw down a one-hand dunk off of a drop-step in traffic for No. 1 Baylor. Griner's certainly dunked in games before, but not quite like this. There aren't a lot of great nights for women's basketball, but this was one of them. You can all return to your Pat Summitt jokes now.
