Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. was arrested Tuesday night in his hometown of St. Petersburg (Fla.) after, well, let’s let the statement St. Petersburg police just emailed me explain it:

Fowler was driving in the Trellis at the Lakes apartment complex, 11150 4th St. North, at about 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, when a man walking in the complex made a comment about Fowler’s driving.

Fowler got out of his car and exchanged words with the man. Fowler hit the man, knocked off his glasses and stepped on them. He then took the victim’s grocery bag, with recently purchased liquor, and threw it in a lake.

Fowler, who was booked at 9:02 p.m. and released at 1:43 a.m. this morning after posting $650 in cash bond, faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and criminal mischief. The victim was uninjured, according to what the victim and a witness told police.
