They gave up 21 points in the fourth, letting Kansas City run away with a 42-27 victory for the worst beating New England’s endured in recent memory.
The hero for the Chiefs was rookie Kareem Hunt, who fumbled on his first carry and then got things together really quick, finishing the night with 148 rushing yards and three touchdowns. One of those was a 78-yarder from Alex Smith, who looked similarly and weirdly godlike with 368 passing yards:
And the Patriots just let all this happen. Already without Julian Edelman and Malcolm Mitchell, they watched Dont’a Hightower go down with a knee injury and Danny Amendola do the same with a concussion. But their problems ran far deeper than those injuries:
