Photos: Plane Crashes Into Skydiver
Photos captured a frightening moment on Saturday, as a descending parachutist was struck by a light plane, causing both to crash. Somehow, neither the skydiver nor the pilot suffered serious injuries.
The accident occurred at South Lakeland Airport in Polk County, Florida, where 87-year-old pilot Sharon Trembley was practicing takeoff and landing maneuvers. On one pass, his right wing hooked the parachute of John S. Frost. Frost was thrown to the ground and the Cessna crashed in a nosedive.
Photographer Tim Telford captured the event in a series of photos, and describes what he saw and heard:
"The plane caught the side of the canopy, flipped the plane 180 degrees and flipped the skydiver into the air. You heard the airplane hit the parachute, which sounded like you falling on your face into your pillow; a 'woof' sound."
