Red Sox Fan In New Zealand Wins $83,000 With One-Handed Cricket Catch
A catch by a cricket spectator in New Zealand net the fan $100,000 in Kiwi money ($83k American) simply by making the grab one-handed while wearing the appropriate T-shirt.
Michael Morton, who we presume is the only Red Sox fan in New Zealand, got the shirt for free with a six-pack of Tui brand beer and then attended today's one-day international match between the Kiwis and West Indies. When he nabbed a sixer (what we'd call a home run in baseball) off the bat of Windies slugger Kieran Powell—and did so with one hand, a stipulation of the contest—it earned him the big prize. Morton proceeded to launch the $100,000 ball back onto the field, like every other Fenway jackass who catches a homer hit by the visiting team.
Fans who endorse bringing a baseball glove to the ballpark now have evidence for their argument, if only cricketers used gloves for fielding. Which they don't (except for the wicket-keeper).
