Mets fans were traumatized in a similar fashion last night, as Fox News inadvertently broadcast the live decapitation of Mr. Met, who is seen in the background in this clip of post-debate discussion from Hofstra University having his head removed. What was Mr. Met doing at the Presidential debate? That question is enough to boggle the mind on its own. Sharp-eyed reader Dave Tepel tells the story:

Flipping through the channels after debate coverage, i stumbled on Fox News (unfortunately) when I saw Mr. Met hanging out in the background. Being a big Mets fan, I thought, "cool, Mr. Met is out hanging at Hofstra." I watched for another minute only to then see the horror of his live decapitation on tv and actually screamed out loud. I hope there were no children watching. I recorded the horror and put up on youtube. Please share so the world can learn from this tragedy."

You just can't breach the fourth wall like that, especially with emotionally scarred New York fans among the viewing audience. As Jim Croce once sang, you don't pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Mr. Met. Another report, from reader Tim Fletcher:

Guys... Last night, as Greta Van Susteren was recapping the Gr8 Deb8... who comes sauntering through the backdrop? None other than Mr. Met!! For about ten to fifteen minutes, Mr. Met sauntered about in the background while Greta and guests dissected the Obama-McCain battle.

Also, can someone please explain this? I have to admit, Mr. Met's foray into politics has me somewhat befuddled.

<![CDATA[Mr. Met Will Shield Your Children From Online Predators]]> Watch out evildoers, Mr. Met is now savvy to the ways of the Interwebs. He is ready to kick some serious online predator ass. The Mets are having their Internet Safety Day on Saturday, and there are plenty of fun Internet safety activities planned. I'm pretty sure. Actually I have no idea, so let's go to the story.

Advocates trying to warn kids about the threat of online sexual predators trolling the Internet have a new ally — Mr. Met. The mascot has been recruited to get the word out at the first-ever Internet Safety Day at Shea Stadium. The event kicks off before the 3:30 p.m. home game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Among the educational goodies that will be handed out to fans are 25,000 mock baseball cards with safety tips like "I pledge to ask a parent before sharing my personal information online" and "I pledge to not meet anyone that I first 'met' online."

I wish I had this information before attending the Deadspin pants party in Alameda. But anyway, I hope this is effective, because it really is a serious subject; even if the chief advocate is wearing baseball pants. Look, he has kids of his own! Now if we could only get the Freddie Sez guy from the Yankees, we'd have an unbeatable child net safety team.

<![CDATA[Mr. Met Sez: Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta]]> If there's one thing I've learned in this world, it's that you do not f—- with Mr. Met. He has a bad attitude and a collection of shivs he made in prison, so watch out. Just look at this photo, where Mr. Met is saying "Don't f—- with my hos, or I will STICK YOU, man!" And witness the video following the jump, from Shea Stadium on Saturday, in which Mr. Met throws a throat-slashing gesture to a Yankees fan. Could the heated NL East division race finally be getting to him?

Of course none of this should come as a surprise to anyone who has followed Mr. Met's recent, troubled past. So anyway, the Phillies should be thankful that their important two-game series with New York, which begins today, is taking place at Citizens Bank; a shiny, happy place where no violence could ever occur.

The Mets are a half-game ahead of the second-place Phils, and have reason to be concerned. Philadelphia is 6-1 since a local blogger organized Campaign Cheer, in which Phillies fans were urged to be more positive toward the home nine; specifically Jimmy Rollins. It seems to be working, I suppose; Rollins was even cheered on Monday during Philadelphia's 5-0 win that completed a four-game sweep of the Dodgers. Rollins finished a home run short of hitting for the cycle, which helped.

<![CDATA[When It's Time For Mr. Met To Party, It's Time To Party Hard]]>

You thought A-Rod was the only New York baseball personality out partying with attractive ladies all weekend? You clearly forgot about Mr. Met.

Over the weekend, a group of Mets fans, for a friend's birthday, hired Mr. Met to come to their party, and the guy really let his seams down and got crazy. The full collection of images are right here, and here's our favorite:

We want Mr. Met to come to all our parties, from now on. Dude can throw down.
