Who's Sorry Now? Rocket Edition

Nowhere in the recorded history of regret has there been a more hang-dog expression than this. Hasn't Roger Clemens suffered enough? Just look at him. The round head that reminds you of the boulder that chased Indiana Jones. The pale skin that reminds you of the moon. The furrowed brow where he keeps extra folding money. On Sunday Clemens came hat in hand to the Houston Chronicle and apologized ... for what I have no idea. More »

Who's Sorry Now? Melo Edition

There is possibly no one on earth who is sorrier than Carmelo Anthony right now; his DUI arrest on Monday has placed him in a state of regret that can actually be seen from space. Call it the Great Wall of Remorse. We just couldn't ignore it here at Who's Sorry Now. Here's his statement, found on the Melo Blog: More »

Who's Sorry Now? Patriots Spygate Edition

So who does one believe in this Matt Walsh vs. Bill Belichick videotaping-the-Rams-Super-Bowl-walkthrough controversy? Is Walsh, as Belichick would have us believe, a rogue agent, out there operating without any decent restraint, totally beyond the pale of any acceptable human conduct? Or is Belichick involved in a Nixonian coverup, with guest star Scott Pioli as Spiro Agnew? One thing that may have me leaning toward the latter ... Big Bill has issued an apology. Not in connection to the Walsh allegations of course; but for the taping incident with the Jets early in the season. Repeating; Belichick has apologized. Yes, the Apocalypse is nigh. More »

Who's Sorry Now? Fat Guy Edition

In possibly the biggest apology in soccer history (until the LA Galaxy gets around to explaining the whole Beckham thing), Diego Maradona has apparently admitted that it was his hand — not God's — that pushed home Argentina's game-turning goal against England in the 1986 World Cup. Of course, the fact that Maradona is moving to England has nothing whatever to do with it. More »

Who's Sorry Now? Herm Edwards Edition

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards, we salute you. Not only did you basically tell your fans to go #### themselves after they complained about the Chiefs' losing record, but then you were forced to sloppily apologize; essentially humbling yourself before fat guys who wear bags over their heads. All in all a glorious sequence for us here at Who's Sorry Now? More »

Phil Jackson Just Can't Quit You

Sure, Phil Jackson's post-game comments on Tuesday were controversial. But the cinematography was spectacular, and we say he deserves an Oscar. Wait, what? After losing to the Spurs on Tuesday, Jackson said "We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game because there's so much penetration and kickouts." Of course this caused much controversy and gnashing of teeth, and Jackson was forced — by the NBA — to retract. And he did so, in a fashion decidedly more humorous than the original comment. More »

Who's Sorry Now? Naked Coach Edition

If there's one thing you learn as a kid, it's that you never apologize for your Halloween costume. Hey, it's Halloween ... shit happens. Just ignore the critics and move on. But now Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna says he is very sorry for dressing as naked assistant Lions coach Joe Cullen, and would like us all to forgive him. Really, the guy was almost in tears. So unbecoming. More »

Bill Belichick Is Very, Very Sorry. Just Kidding ... He Couldn't Care Less

Yes, it's the man whom you never thought you'd see leading off Who's Sorry Now, because he never apologizes for anything ... Mr. Bill Belichick. The New England Patriots coach issued a one-paragraph statement 10 minutes before his regular press conference on Wednesday, concerning the Beligate videotape mess. Because there is nothing more sincere than reading a prepared statement in front of a group of reporters while wearing shorts, we're sure everyone is back on his side. More »

Brett Myers Wishes To Clear The Air

Only one apology in this edition of Who's Sorry Now?, if we're not counting Michael Vick. It's Phillies reliever Brett Myers, who expresses regret over calling Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Sam Carchidi "a retard" during a terse exchange Saturday. Myers had given up a couple of home runs against the Padres, and didn't appreciate being asked about it. Here's the audio and the transcript of the original argument, thanks to Bugs and Cranks. This caused immediate pangs of remorse. More »

Donovan, Beckham Each Politely Request A Mulligan

It's buyer's remorse day here at Who's Sorry Now, as Billy Donovan and David Beckham each ask the musical question: What exactly is the cooling off period for switching high-profile sports jobs? In Donovan's case, on Friday he decided to leave the Florida Gators to take the Orlando Magic job, then took stock of his decision over the weekend and woke up on Sunday screaming "NOOOOO!" More »

If Lastings Milledge Has Offended Any Of You Hos, He Apologizes

A while back we recorded the saga of the Mets' Lastings Milledge, whose new rap song, Bend Ya Knees, not only failed to capture the imagination of America's youth, but also angered his baseball employers. Milledge apologized on Thursday, probably ruining his street cred among all Triple-A/hip hop fans who wear festive sweaters. More »

Who's Sorry Now? Old Leatherface Edition

Does WFAN have an ombudsman? Because someone needs to tell the network to place Don Imus in a block of ice and shove him toward Greenland, where he can be unfrozen sometime in the future when they figure out a cure for old. Why was Imus racially taunting the Rutgers basketball team again? Not even he knows. More »

Who's Sorry Now? Hand Jive Edition

Who's Sorry Now? is going away for a little while. All this remorse has been overwhelming, and we're sad to report that we began drinking again. So we'll be resting at a secure rehabilitation facility in a country setting in Northern California, and we may even get Robin Williams' old room. But first, a farewell apology from none other than Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick, who in this photo agrees with his fans that the Falcons are number one! More »

Who's Sorry Now? Pac-10 Football Edition

This week on Who's Sorry Now? we're proud to present the rare Double Apology. USC football coach Pete Carroll dips his bucket into the Well of Regret not once, but twice for comments he made during the Trojans' win over Oregon on Saturday. The ODucks Blog is less than impressed, however: More »

Who's Sorry Now? Adios Macaca Edition

It's Heartfelt Friday, three days following the elections, and never before have so many politicians been so terribly, terribly sorry. Chief among them is George Allen — son of the former Washington Redskins coach — who was riding high in the polls in August before an unfortunate turn of phrase sent his numbers plummeting like a safe full of quarters. He called his opponent's campaign aid a "macaca" not once, but twice (relive the fun in the video above), and then apologized profusely, but it did no good. Ironic: If he had simply botched the joke like John Kerry did, perhaps Democrats would not now control the Senate. More »

Who's Sorry Now?

It's been quite a year so far for youth football, hasn't it? Spectators being mistaken for terrorists, police officers tasering rambunctious fans ... one concerned parent even pulled a gun on a coach. Compared to that, the following may not seem like much, except for the heartfelt, tearful apologies all around. And that's what we're all about on Fridays. More »
