ESPN's Matthew Barnaby Pulled Over While Driving On Three Tires, Charged With DWI [UPDATE]
ESPN analyst Matthew Barnaby—also known for a pro hockey career and a brief relationship with Bristol coworker Michelle Beadle— was pulled over in Clarence, N.Y. early this morning and charged with a DWI. Barnaby faced five criminal charges in a domestic dispute case just last May.
Barnaby was reportedly driving his SUV on three tires on the Dana Marie Parkway just after 3 a.m. this morning when he was arrested. From WGRZ 2's report:
Erie County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of an SUV driving erratically without a front tire.
Deputies say Barnaby, 38, was behind the wheel of his Porsche Cayenne and driving on a rim, which caused sparks. There was also significant front end damage.
The Sheriff's Department says Barnaby failed several standard field sobriety tests and refused a breath test. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. His license was revoked because of the refusal.
We'll update with more information as we get it, because there has got to be a truly magnificent explanation to this.
Update: Barnaby tweeted a picture of him and his "boys" after watching the Jets game at a bar yesterday afternoon. Sounds like a long night:
Update #2: An ESPN spokesperson tells us that they "are looking into the situation."
Update #3: ESPN has fired Matthew Barnaby "effective immediately." Read about it here.
