Astros activate Isaac Paredes, place Yordan Alvarez on IL

The Houston Astros placed slugger Yordan Alvarez on the 10-day injured list Friday and reinstated All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes from the 60-day IL.
The move involving Alvarez is retroactive to Tuesday. The 28-year-old sprained his left ankle during Monday's game against the Texas Rangers.
Paredes, sidelined since July 19 with a strained hamstring, will be available for a critical weekend series against the visiting Seattle Mariners.
The Astros and Mariners are tied atop the American League West with 84-69 records entering Friday's contest.
Paredes, 26, batted .259 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs in 94 games before the injury, earning his second All-Star selection.
Paredes has made 88 starts at third base this season but will serve as the designated hitter Friday, batting third in the order.
Alvarez's ankle sprain marks yet another setback in an injury-marred campaign for the outfielder/designated hitter. He has only played in 48 games this season after missing 100 straight games earlier this year due to a fractured right hand.
Alvarez, a three-time All-Star, is hitting .273 with six home runs and 27 RBIs in 2025.
Houston also transferred right-hander Kaleb Ort (elbow) to the 60-day IL to open up a 40-man roster spot for Paredes.
