Atlanta Braves Fire Fredi González
Photo: [object Object] The first managerial firing of the MLB season comes from the worst team. The Atlanta Braves have axed Fredi González. David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the firing.
The Braves clearly had no plan to compete this season, but González, who’s consistently won when he’s had talent to manage, got the hook for his team’s 9-28 record anyway, even though the roster was stripped of real major leaguers. Perhaps the issue is that gifted players like Freddie Freeman, Matt Wisler, Julio Teheran, and Arodys Vizcaíno have actually played well.
Atlanta will promote from within its organization. Brian Snitker, who managed the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves, will be the interim manager.
