Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have been steaming mad ever since they lost The Game to Ohio State by three points last Saturday. The matchup was incredibly close throughout, and it hinged on a replay review on the penultimate play of the game which went Ohio State’s way and extended their eventual game-winning drive. Harbaugh took issue with the spot on that play as well as the officiating throughout the game in his postgame press conference.
The Big Ten was unhappy with their most prominent coach repeatedly noting his “bitter” disappointment with their officials’ work, and they fined Michigan $10,000 today. It’s the first time they’ve fined a coach for criticizing officials since they dinged Nebraska’s Bo Pelini in 2013 for decrying a “chickenshit call.” The conference said that Harbaugh had violated “fundamental elements” of sportsmanship.
