Braves' Daniel Winkler Fractures His Elbow While Throwing A Pitch
Atlanta Braves reliever Daniel Winkler fractured his elbow during Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. The video doesn’t show any graphic detail. All you see is a man who knows something is definitely wrong with his arm.
Winkler, who was 15 pitches into his appearance, had his 16th pitch sail wide behind St. Louis outfielder Randal Grichuk. The righty immediately walked off the mound while holding his arm.
The 26-year-old Winkler said he knew his arm was broken right away (via MLB.com):
“On the slider, I kind of felt something with my elbow,” Winkler said. “I didn’t really think much of it, but I got the cutter away and I heard it crack. I knew exactly what it was when it happened. It didn’t feel good.[”]
The Braves announced that Winkler would be out indefinitely.
