Champion Dodgers set parade, stadium event for Friday

The Los Angeles Dodgers will celebrate their 2024 World Series win with a parade and an event at Dodger Stadium on Friday.
The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. local time at the Gloria Molina Grand Park in front of Los Angeles City Hall. The players, manager Dave Roberts and other team personnel will board double-decker buses to travel the 45-minute downtown parade route.
A ticketed event also will be held at Dodger Stadium, with the parade shown on stadium scoreboards. The team will take part in the stadium celebration following the parade.
The Dodgers rallied to beat the Yankees 7-6 in New York in a thriller Wednesday night to win the series 4-1. The Dodgers also won the title in 2020 but couldn't hold a public celebration because of the pandemic. After the game, Roberts said how much he was looking forward to celebrating a world championship with Dodgers fans, who last had the chance in 1988.
Friday also would have been the 64th birthday of Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela, who died Oct. 22 amid a battle with cancer.
"It's going to be emotional," Roberts said after the game. "Fernando was a friend of mine. I know he's smiling right now and very proud of this organization. So he's going to be missed. I'm sure it's something that he would want to have been a part of, but it's going to be emotional for all of us."
