Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay apologized over social media for his comments he made last week about the team's season-opening game in Brazil.
"I want to apologize to anyone I offended, that wasn't my intention," Slay posted to X on Tuesday, just ahead of the Eagles' 10-hour flight from Philadelphia to Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Eagles are opening their season against the Green Bay Packers on Friday night in the Brazilian city.
"I'm Looking forward to playing in your beautiful country and i've heard yall are very passionate just like our amazing Eagles (fans). Just a few more days, can't wait!!!!"
That post was in stark contrast to what the six-time Pro Bowl selection said about Brazil last week on his "Big Play Slay" podcast. Slay, 33, cited worries about the country's crime rate and told his family not to join the team.
"Man, I do not want to go to Brazil," Slay said at the time. "They already told us not to leave the hotel. ... NFL, why do y'all want to send us somewhere where the crime rate is this high?"
