This occurred on Monday; but it's from Sweden, and it's soccer ... in other words, you're lucky you're seeing it this soon. They're calling it The Greatest Goal Ever Scored, and we can't argue. Of course if they called it The Most Routine Goal Ever Scored we couldn't argue with that either. Get the picture?
Fans of the beautiful game have been gasping in wonder at the cheeky crossed kick effort by Peruvian Andres Vasquez. It was the 19-year-old midfielder's first league goal for Swedish side IFK Gothenburg and it is unlikely he will ever top it. On Monday night he took the ball from an Orebro player, ran to the edge of the penalty area and, as the ball rolled, moved his left leg behind his right. With the outside of his left boot he then chipped the ball sweetly into the top corner of the net. Fansite whoateallthepies.tv described Vasquez's belter as the "Greatest goal ever scored. Ever. Ever. Ever" and "a goal that will surely never be equalled."
We would be shocked, of course, if The Sun was building this up to be something it isn't. But they do have a nifty list of other great goals. Although describing a great goal is kind of like describing a great meal; you kind of had to be there.
